CHAPTER 13 - Carriers of His Presence Opening Scripture “My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exodus 33:14 (KJV) Introduction Created for Communion Humanity was never created merely to survive. Humanity was created for communion with God. Before sin entered the world, Adam and Eve walked with the Lord in the garden freely. There was no separation, no shame, no fear, and no hiding. The greatest treasure of Eden was not the garden itself. It was the presence of God. From the very beginning, the deepest purpose of mankind was intimacy with the Creator. And though sin fractured that communion, the heart of God has never changed. Throughout Scripture, one theme remains constant: God desires to dwell among His people. This is the story of redemption: God restoring humanity back into communion with Himself. The Presence of God Changes Everything One genuine encounter with the presence of God can transform a life forever. His presence: • heals wounds, • restores identity, • breaks chains, • purifies motives, • renews the mind, • strengthens the weary, • and awakens love within the human heart. People may encounter sermons, theology, ministry, and religion externally, yet still remain spiritually dry internally without genuine intimacy with God. Because Christianity was never meant to become merely intellectual belief. It is relationship. The presence of God is not merely a doctrine to study. It is a reality to experience. Moses - Hungry for Presence Moses understood the value of God’s presence deeply. After leading Israel through the wilderness, Moses prayed: “If Your presence does not go with us, do not lead us up from here.” Exodus 33:15 Moses recognised something many people still miss: success without God’s presence is emptiness. Position cannot replace presence. Ministry cannot replace presence. Knowledge cannot replace presence. Activity cannot replace presence. Without communion with God, spiritual life becomes dry performance. Moses desired more than blessing. He desired God Himself. And this hunger became the foundation of intimacy. The Difference Between Religion and Presence Religion can exist without intimacy. People can: • attend church, • quote Scripture, • preach sermons, • sing worship songs, • and perform spiritual activities while remaining disconnected internally from communion with God. This is one of the greatest dangers of religious performance. External activity can sometimes hide internal emptiness. But the presence of God exposes superficial spirituality. Because His presence always invites authenticity. God is not merely seeking outward obedience. He desires surrendered hearts that genuinely know Him. The Holy Spirit - God With Us Under the New Covenant, believers are not merely visitors to God’s presence. They become temples of the Holy Spirit. Paul wrote: “Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is within you…?” 1 Corinthians 6:19 This changes everything. The believer carries the presence of God internally. Not occasionally. Continually. The Christian life is not about visiting God once a week. It is learning how to walk consciously aware of Him daily. Purity and Presence Throughout Scripture, purity and presence remain connected. Not because God is harsh, but because intimacy requires alignment. Sin dulls spiritual sensitivity. Compromise creates distance emotionally and spiritually. This is why transparency matters deeply. People who hide compromise often lose sensitivity to God’s voice gradually. Not because God abandoned them, but because hidden darkness clouds intimacy. Purity is not legalistic perfectionism. It is protecting communion with the One you love. David - A Heart After God David made serious mistakes throughout his life. Yet Scripture still calls him a man after God’s own heart. Why? Because David continually returned to intimacy. Even after failure, his greatest fear was not losing position. It was losing the presence of God. After sinning, David prayed: “Do not cast me away from Your presence…” Psalm 51:11 This reveals the heart of true relationship. David valued communion with God above reputation, success, or status. And this hunger continually drew him back into surrender. Living Aware of God Many believers acknowledge God intellectually while living practically unaware of Him daily. But communion grows through awareness. The Holy Spirit desires involvement in: • decisions, • conversations, • relationships, • thoughts, • emotions, • work, • worship, • and daily life. This awareness transforms ordinary moments into sacred moments. The believer begins recognising: God is near continually. Not distant. Not absent. Present. The Secret Place Jesus often withdrew to lonely places to pray. Why? Because intimacy requires intentional connection. The secret place is where: • masks fall, • striving ceases, • identity deepens, • healing happens, • and love grows. Public ministry without private intimacy eventually becomes empty. This is why many believers feel spiritually exhausted. They attempt to sustain spiritual life outwardly without remaining connected inwardly to the presence of God. But intimacy renews the soul. Presence and Transformation People become like what they behold continually. This is why prolonged communion with God transforms people deeply. Paul wrote: “And we all… are being transformed into the same image…” 2 Corinthians 3:18 Transformation is not merely behavioural effort. It flows from encounter. The more people experience God genuinely, the more: • pride weakens, • fear diminishes, • love increases, • purity deepens, • and identity stabilises. Presence changes people from the inside out. The Danger of Familiarity One of the greatest threats to intimacy is familiarity. People can become accustomed to spiritual language while losing wonder toward God Himself. Routine replaces hunger. Performance replaces communion. Activity replaces devotion. But intimacy requires continual surrender. The heart must remain tender, hungry, and responsive to God. This is why transparency matters continually. Because hardened hearts slowly lose sensitivity to His presence. Carrying His Presence Publicly The presence of God is not meant to remain confined to private moments. Believers become carriers of His presence everywhere they go. This means: • homes carry peace, • conversations carry grace, • workplaces carry integrity, • relationships carry love, • and lives reflect Christ visibly. People should encounter something different around those who walk closely with God. Not perfection. Presence. There is a weight of peace, purity, humility, wisdom, and compassion that flows from genuine intimacy. The Presence That Heals Others Throughout Jesus’ ministry, people encountered healing simply by being near Him. Why? Because He carried the presence of the Father continually. The same principle remains true spiritually. Believers who walk deeply with God often become: • safe places, • healing voices, • peaceful atmospheres, • and reflections of God’s heart. Not because of self-effort. Because intimacy overflows naturally. What fills the heart eventually touches others. Intimacy Beyond Religion God is not searching merely for religious workers. He is seeking lovers. People who desire Him beyond obligation. People who value communion more than image. People who pursue presence privately, not merely publicly. This is the invitation of transparency: living honestly before God until relationship becomes deeper than performance. The Lifestyle of Communion Communion with God is not meant to become occasional. It becomes a lifestyle. Prayer shifts from ritual into conversation. Worship shifts from music into surrender. Obedience shifts from duty into love. The believer begins walking with continual awareness of: • God’s nearness, • His voice, • His peace, • His conviction, • and His love. This is the life humanity was created for. Truth Is Transparent Truth removes the barriers that hinder intimacy with God. Transparency allows believers to walk openly before Him without masks, hidden compromise, or performance. And where surrender, purity, honesty, and hunger remain present, the presence of God becomes increasingly real. Because God does not merely desire visitation. He desires habitation. Reflection Questions • Do I value God’s presence above success, ministry, or recognition? • What distractions have weakened my intimacy with God? • Am I living consciously aware of His presence daily? • What hidden compromises may be dulling spiritual sensitivity? • How can I cultivate deeper communion with God consistently? Prayer Activation Father, Create within me a deeper hunger for Your presence. Forgive me for every place where routine, distraction, compromise, or performance has replaced genuine intimacy with You. Teach me to live continually aware of Your nearness. Remove every barrier that hinders communion with You and purify my heart so I may walk closely with Your Spirit. Help me become a carrier of Your peace, love, purity, wisdom, and presence everywhere I go. Let my life reflect intimacy with You more than religious activity. Draw me deeper into the secret place until communion with You becomes the foundation of everything I do. In Jesus’ name, Amen. Key Scripture Meditation “One thing have I asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life…” Psalm 27:4 (AMP) Chapter Closing Thought The greatest treasure of the Christian life is not position, gifting, or public recognition. It is intimacy with the presence of God
