Chapter 7: Grace Defined - Divine Enablement Grace is not God overlooking sin. Grace is God empowering transformation. It is not passive. It is not weak. It is not permission to remain the same. Grace is the divine influence of God upon the heart, producing a life that reflects Christ. •Grace Revealed in Christ “For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17) Grace is not a doctrine, it is revealed in a Person. Jesus did not just preach grace, He embodied it. •He lifted the broken •He confronted the proud •He empowered the weak •He revealed the Father Grace is not leniency, it is power with purpose. •Grace vs Law The law demanded what man could not produce. Grace supplies what God requires. The law said: •“Do this and live” Grace says: •“Live, and you will do” The law worked from the outside in. Grace works from the inside out. “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.” (Romans 6:14) Grace breaks the dominion of sin, not by ignoring it, but by removing its power at the root. •Grace Is a Teacher “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us…” (Titus 2:11–12) Grace teaches. This dismantles the false idea that grace allows compromise. True grace instructs you: •to deny ungodliness •to live soberly •to walk righteously •to remain godly If what is called “grace” does not produce holiness, it is not biblical grace. •Empowered Living Grace does not just forgive, it enables. “By the grace of God I am what I am… yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.” (1 Corinthians 15:10) Paul laboured, but not in his own strength. Grace empowered him: •to endure •to remain faithful •to walk in obedience •to fulfil his assignment This is the balance: •not self-effort •not passivity •but grace-empowered action •The Misuse of Grace One of the greatest dangers is using grace as a covering for compromise. “Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid.” (Romans 6:1–2) Grace does not excuse sin, it frees you from it. When grace is misunderstood, it leads to: •complacency •lack of discipline •tolerance of sin •spiritual immaturity But when grace is rightly received, it produces: •conviction •empowerment •transformation •holiness •Receiving Grace Grace is given, but it must be received. “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” (James 4:6) Pride resists grace because it relies on self. Humility receives grace because it depends on God. To receive grace is to: •acknowledge your need •surrender your strength •trust His sufficiency •Grace and Obedience Grace does not remove obedience, it empowers it. Obedience under law is forced. Obedience under grace is transformed desire. You no longer obey to be accepted. You obey because you are accepted. This shifts everything from duty - to delight. •Strength in Weakness “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9) Grace meets you where you are, but it does not leave you there. Your weakness becomes the platform for His strength. This is not an excuse to remain weak, it is an invitation to depend fully on Him. •The Key: Dependence on Grace The New Creation life cannot be lived in human strength. It requires: •reliance •surrender •continual dependence Grace is not a one-time gift, it is a daily supply. •Living in Grace Daily To walk in grace is to: •begin your day dependent on God •respond to challenges through His strength •reject self-reliance •remain yielded to the Spirit This produces a life that is: •strong •consistent •fruitful Not because of you, but because of Him in you. •Activation: Step Into Grace Stop striving in your own strength. Recognise where you have been: •trying harder •relying on self •carrying what grace has already supplied Now shift: •receive His empowerment •yield to His strength •walk in His ability •Prayer Father, Thank You for Your grace. Not just that it forgives me, But that it empowers me to live in righteousness. Where I have relied on my own strength, I surrender it now. Teach me to depend on You fully, To receive Your grace daily, And to walk in obedience through Your power. Let Your grace form Christ in me, And be expressed through my life. In Jesus’ Name. •Next, we move into the practical outworking of grace in daily life: Chapter 8: Walking in the Spirit This is where everything becomes lived, not just understood, where the Spirit leads, and the flesh loses influence.
