Chapter 14: The Process of Sanctification Sanctification is not what makes you accepted, It is the process of becoming aligned with what you already are. You are not being sanctified to become righteous. You are being sanctified because you are righteous. This distinction protects you from striving… and from complacency. •Set Apart in Christ “But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us… sanctification…” (1 Corinthians 1:30) Sanctification begins in Christ, not in your effort. You are already: •set apart •made holy •positioned in Him This is your identity. •Positional vs Progressive Sanctification There are two dimensions: Positional sanctification You are made holy instantly through Christ. Progressive sanctification Your life is continually being aligned with that holiness. Your position is perfect. Your walk is developing. Understanding this removes confusion: •you are not trying to become holy •you are learning to live holy •The Role of the Holy Spirit Sanctification is not self-improvement, it is Spirit-led transformation. “But we are bound to give thanks… because God hath from the beginning chosen you… through sanctification of the Spirit…” (2 Thessalonians 2:13) The Spirit: •convicts •leads •refines •strengthens He reveals what does not align, and empowers you to walk in truth. •The Refining Process Sanctification often comes through refinement. “That the trial of your faith… might be found unto praise and honour…” (1 Peter 1:7) Trials are not punishment, they are process. They expose: •hidden attitudes •misplaced trust •areas of immaturity And they produce: •endurance •purity •depth of character •Cooperation With the Process God works, but you must cooperate. “Work out your own salvation… for it is God which worketh in you…” (Philippians 2:12–13) This is the balance: •God works within •you respond outwardly Sanctification requires: •obedience •humility •willingness to change •Putting Off and Putting On “Put off… the old man… and… put on the new man…” (Ephesians 4:22–24) Though the old man is crucified, patterns must still be replaced. This is intentional: •putting off wrong thinking •putting on truth •rejecting old habits •embracing new patterns Transformation is both spiritual and practical. Holiness: The Fruit of Sanctification Holiness is not restriction, it is alignment with God’s nature. It is: •purity in heart •integrity in action •consistency in character Holiness is not produced by pressure, it flows from identity and surrender. •The Role of Time Sanctification is not instant, it is progressive. “Being confident… that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it…” (Philippians 1:6) This requires patience. You are not called to rush the process, You are called to remain faithful in it. •Guarding Against Extremes Two dangers must be avoided: Legalism •trying to perfect yourself through effort •focusing on rules over relationship License •using grace as permission to remain unchanged •avoiding responsibility for growth True sanctification walks the middle: grace-empowered transformation. •Purity of Heart “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” (Matthew 5:8) Sanctification is not just external, it is internal. God is forming: •your motives •your desires •your intentions This is where true transformation happens. •The Key: Yielded Cooperation Sanctification is not forced, it is yielded to. When you: •respond to conviction •remain teachable •stay surrendered Transformation flows naturally. •Living This Daily Sanctification is worked out in everyday life: •choosing truth over emotion •responding in love instead of reaction •allowing correction without resistance •remaining consistent in obedience These small moments shape long-term transformation. •Activation: Embrace the Process Today, shift your perspective: Stop resisting refinement. Stop fearing correction. Stop rushing growth. Instead: •embrace the process •trust the Spirit •remain faithful •Prayer Father, Thank You that You are working within me. Teach me to cooperate with Your Spirit, To respond to Your leading, And to embrace the process of sanctification. Refine my heart, Purify my motives, And align my life with Your truth. Keep me from striving and from complacency, And lead me in grace-empowered transformation. I trust the work You are doing in me, And I yield to it fully. In Jesus’ Name. Chapter 15: The Renewed Life This will bring everything into real, lived expression, how identity, sanctification, and transformation become visible in everyday life.
