Chapter 10: Dominion Rightly Understanding Authority Under God •Restoring a Word That Has Been Distorted “Dominion” is a word that has been stretched, misused, and, in some circles, even avoided. Some have turned it into control, power, and personal elevation. Others, reacting to that abuse, have stripped it down until it means almost nothing. But Scripture does neither. If we are going to build as men of truth, we must not define dominion by: • Culture • Denominations • Movements • Reactions to excess We define it by the Word of God and the life of Jesus Christ. “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image… and let them have dominion…’” (Genesis 1:26) Dominion is not man exalting himself. Dominion is man rightly representing God under His authority. •Dominion Begins With Submission, Not Control This is where many go wrong. They seek authority without submission. Influence without obedience. Power without alignment. That is not biblical dominion, that is rebellion dressed as spirituality. Jesus made this unmistakably clear: “The Son can do nothing of Himself…” (John 5:19) Let that settle. The One who had all authority… lived in complete submission to the Father. This is the foundation: You cannot walk in true dominion if you are not submitted to God. •Dominion Is Stewardship, Not Ownership From the beginning, dominion was never about ownership, it was about stewardship. Adam was placed in the garden: • To tend it • To keep it • To steward what belonged to God He did not own it. He was entrusted with it. The same is true for you. Your life is not yours to control independently. It is yours to steward faithfully under God. “Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.” (1 Corinthians 4:2) •The Error of Extremes To speak clearly and carefully: There are errors on both sides when it comes to dominion. One extreme: Overreach • Dominion becomes control over others • Authority becomes self-exaltation • Language becomes grand, but life lacks submission • Claims of power exceed the fruit of obedience The other extreme: Withdrawal • Men shrink back from responsibility • Authority is ignored or denied • Passivity is justified as humility • Fear replaces faith-driven action Both are out of alignment. Dominion is neither domination nor passivity. It is ordered authority under God. •Jesus: The Perfect Expression of Dominion If there is any confusion, look at Christ. • He had authority, yet washed feet • He commanded power, yet walked in humility • He led multitudes, yet withdrew to pray • He spoke with authority, yet submitted fully to the Father “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” (Matthew 28:18) And what did He do with that authority? He served. He obeyed. He gave His life. This destroys every false idea of dominion rooted in pride. •Dominion Starts Within Before It Moves Without Many want authority over circumstances, influence, or spiritual matters, but lack dominion over themselves. That is disorder. Biblical dominion begins here: • Your thoughts • Your emotions • Your actions • Your discipline “He who rules his spirit is better than he who takes a city.” (Proverbs 16:32) If you cannot govern your inner world, you are not ready to carry authority in any outer one. •Authority Is Expressed Through Responsibility Dominion is not something you declare, it is something you demonstrate. It shows up in: • How you lead your life • How you handle pressure • How you steward what is entrusted to you • How you remain aligned under God This is not loud. This is not performative. This is consistent, grounded authority. •The Everyday Man: Where Dominion Is Lived Out Dominion is not abstract or mystical. It is practical and visible: • Governing your household with integrity • Managing your work with excellence • Controlling your responses under pressure • Walking in obedience when no one sees This is dominion in action. Not exaggerated. Not inflated. Accurate. •Tenth Principle: Rule Under Authority You are called to rule, but not independently. You rule: • Under God • Through obedience • In alignment with truth • With the character of Christ Anything outside of that is not dominion. It is deception. •Activation: Bring Your Life Into Order Under God Today, bring this into clarity: 1. Ask honestly Where am I trying to control instead of submit? 2. Examine your life Where have I avoided responsibility under the excuse of humility? 3. Realign Submit fully to God’s authority 4. Steward what is in your hands Faithfully. Quietly. Consistently. This is where dominion grows. •The Closing Charge Dominion is not about becoming powerful in your own right. It is about becoming aligned, faithful, and entrusted under God. It is not loud. It is not self-promoting. It is not exaggerated. It is steady, submitted, and real. A man walking in true dominion: • Does not need to prove anything • Does not strive for position • Does not operate outside of God He simply walks in alignment, and carries authority because of it. So reject the distortions. Reject the passivity. Reject the pride. And step into what is true: Rule your life under God, and let Him entrust you with more.
